CHANGES TO THE SEAFOOD INDUSTRY TRAINING PACKAGE WELCOMED

The seminars on the changes to the revised Seafood Industry Training Package held in early February 2004 around Australia were hugely successful. As well as imparting information on these changes, staff from Seafood Training Australia discussed the industry-wide initiatives in environmental management systems (EMS) and their links with the Training Package.

The workshops had specific benefits for industry people, training providers, New Apprenticeship Centres, marine authorities, State Training Authorities and group training companies. All sectors of the seafood industry were covered - fishing operations, aquaculture, post-harvest sectors and compliance.

Training providers and marine authorities welcomed the changes and stated that they would be able to work with these enhancements. The National Training Quality Council also ratified the revised Package just days before the commencement of the seminars thus progressing Seafood Training Australia to being one step away from final endorsement and release to the public.

Information on the forthcoming Users Guide for Registered Training Organisations and national nominal hours project will be made available to relevant people late in February 2004.

For further information, contact either Anita Heijkoop or Ross Ord on (02) 6281-0383, aheijkoop@asic.org.au or rord@asic.org.au or your local training advisory representative.
